Mossy Oak Relies on Truth

As we aimed for structured content and branding, we studied various brands we admired. And that led us to the mothership of all outdoor-lifestyle brands — Mossy Oak.

It was a given for us. Mossy Oak embodies the roots of hunting and being outdoors. Their camo is dope and they cornered the outdoor-lifestyle brand market with some very sleek moves regrading intellectual property rights. But what makes Mossy Oak special?

What separates Mossy Oak from the pack is their obedience to honor God. We have no ties with Mossy Oak or it’s founder Toxey Haas. However, while studying brand archetype personaities we spotted something peculiar within the brand’s message. And that was the owner’s ability to place his respect towards God in the forefront of his business.

With that said as we’ve built CVA Outdoors, we’ve kept in mind that maturity is essential to sustain. Meaning, we are now aware that despite any scholarly descriptions of branding that float around the internet, the primary ingredient a great brand’s message is the Truth.

More than Outdoors

Separating The Men from the Boys

Guess you could say we finally reached a point where we can breathe. If you’re here, that means our content is worth a click. And we appreciate it. So we’ll go ahead and start with some house cleaning…

At this time our content-testing phase is over. We’re now heading in the direction we were aiming for. And although that’s good news for us. We still have much more to build. Like– alot more.

That said, it’s about to get a little more real over here. Beyond hunting and fishing.

Realize that as we created CVA Outdoors, the vision was more than just creating a hunting and fishing group. The vision was much broader and it embodied more than showing off big game images. Big fish and deer are nice. Don’t get us wrong. But that was just a fragment of what we were imagining at the time of the first Facebook group post.

At the end of the day, it’s true— our content leverages outdoor living. But the driving force behind our brand isn’t about the game itself. It’s about the man that pursues the hunt.

On that note, thanks for hanging in there with our little rugged operation thus far. We appreciate you. And since you’ve stuck around this long, we’re going to move forward with the rest of the plan.

We can’t guarantee you will always like or agree what we have to say. But you can bet your sweet ass that we’re going to say what we feel needs to be said.

Have a good one. And check back in as we start establishing what separates men from boys.

Why Should I Use a Spinning Reel?

A Few Benefits of the Spinning Reel

In this bass fishing world we live in, the sport has many options. Analyses paralyses can sink in at times when it comes to choosing the proper rod/ reel set-ups. With that said, you may be curious as to why you need a spinning reel.

I was on the flip side of things. I started with a spinning reel then moved into a bait caster a couple years back. However, I’ve found myself leaning back toward the spinning reel lately. And here’s why.

First and foremost, I’m not real technical fishermen. I tell people all the time — At the end of the day all you need is a fishing rod and a lure to catch big bass.

On that note, most non-technical guys like myself (fisherman that simply enjoy fishing finesse style plastic baits), the spinning reel is a great set- up for our style of fishing.

The Spinning Reel is Ideal for Smaller Finesse Baits

The spinning reel is great for throwing smaller baits versus using a bait caster. One of my favorite rods is a micro spinning reel set-up. More specific, it’s a five-foot Abu Garcia Cherrywood rod combined with a small Pflueger spinning reel. This combination is an easy, inexpensive combo build and purchase at Dick’s Sporting Goods.

This little spinning reel combo is great because it helps you find fish. All you need to do is slide on a 1/8 ounce bullet weight, tie on a small plastic bait and chuck it weed lines. In cases of heavy structure, you can easily swim your lure over and around logs.

More often than not, when the small bass begin to strike your smaller baits, you know that your lunkers are lurking nearby.

Spinning Reel Advantages

  • Great for pitching lighter weight baits
  • More control and accuracy
  • Excels at managing finesse-bait retrieves
  • Ability to swap the reel handle to either right or left hand reeling (major plus)
