#1 Top-Water Lure, Lunkerhunt Kraken Series Walking Frog

This is the go-to bait Clay Moseley reaches for on any given overcast-weather day. If there is anything Moseley specializes in it’s fishing the frog and he would never steer you wrong.

That said, this specific frog has put more bass in the boat more than any other here at CVA Outdoors. The only draw back to the bait is the belly button on the frog. You’ll notice that after a series of big bass bust this bait’s ass, the belly button on the frog will become weak. This allows for water to fill up the hollow frog. The frog will longer work properly once this happens.

But the belly button of the frog is only a small price to pay when you know how well the frog works. We just make sure we have about five of them on the boat. Tackle warehouse doesn’t have the black and blue model in stock, but you can buy the Lunkerhunt walking frog in other colors if you want to see what they offer. We also like the green-top, white bottom version of the frog.

What maks this little frog the best is the tassle legs. Just a flinch on your retreive kicks the frog in such a natural way that lurking lunkers can’t help but get a better look.

Froggin Lee Lake

 

Lee Lake, also known as Nottoway Lake, is a body of water located out in Amelia, Virginia off Route 153. Lee Lake is somewhat of a secret to most Virginia bass fisherman. So know it’s another option if you’re searching for less-pressured fishing holes.

It can be a challenge bass fishing Lee Lake. The water is filled with submerged structure and if the water is low, expect a rough ride; you will glance off stumps frequently.However, there a lot of deep water. But as far as the way we like to fish Lee Lake; we tend to lean towards the more shallow areas because the topwater bite can get nasty in the summer.

In this video we rolled out to Lee Lake early in the morning. Moseley actually screwed the pooch and woke up late. But Moseley and Lutz met up at the boat launch around 6am whereby Lutz had already broke the ice with the topwater bite. He was already on track with the plan: catch bass on the frog.

Once Moseley stepped on the boat the two men trolled to the back of the lake. In our opinion, especially on a dank muggy morning, the very back of the lake produces the best top-water bite. The lake runs real shallow in the back and there is a lot of vegetation and grass. There are massive root balls from fallen, timbered trees floating around as well. These root balls offer a lot of opportunity; they tend to act as strong holds for bass.

Once we reached the very back we turned the boat around and hugged the right-side bank lines. With Lutz on the foot-controlled trolling motor moving at a snails pace, Moseley worked the vegetation and floating root balls we mentioned earlier. Moseley, as always, worked a black and blue Lunkerhunt Kraken series frog. He would cast ahead of the goat, let the frog float and implement soft-touch series of three-twitch retrieves.

As you can see in the video, it didn’t take too long for Moseley to find a nice bass hanging out in the floating structures at the back of Lee Lake.

Beyond the Tree-Line

Our connection with the outdoors goes well beyond fishing lures and shotgun shells.

That said, our strong connection with nature is deeply rooted in knowing God orchestrates what we admire most: the amazing sunsets that glow across distant horizons, the animals that lurk within tree-lines, and the waters that trickle in the background as we meditate on the big mystery we call Life.

As we look around today, however; we’re perplexed. Because we see a lot of abnormal conditions. Seems like America is oozing with more sin than when we were kids.

Sadly enough, the majority of the population declines reading words that confront sinful-nature. Because many people want to think they have complete control of their life.

But you are not in total control. And to think you are, you lack obedience. Keep reading…

For most of us within the CVA Outdoors community, we grew up in a family-first, southern-lifestyle home. Meaning, many of us were fortunate enough to be primed, at an early age, with the knowledge that God runs the show. Even more, we know God’s son, Jesus Christ, is King. And we also know that EVERY man will bend the knee to Jesus. The scriptures tell us this.

With that said, here at CVA Outdoors our bottom line contribution to the outdoor dialogue is salvation and speaking on man’s broken condition. And we’re not ashamed to do it along with many other practical, down-to-earth voices across this great nation.

On that note, this world we trudge through is non-redeemable, no matter how many politicians, global authorities or social activists try to convince us they can fix the world’s problems. Because at the end of the day, the only thing that needs to be fixed is man’s condition. And that starts with every man and woman loving God and their neighbors as themself.

The Truth is in front of you. And we simply want to encourage you to seek a relationship with Jesus, now. All it takes is having the willingness to deny your self and become obedient to God. And if you’re not into reading scripture, we’re telling you now; When Christ’s returns, He says He will come as a thief in the night. So be prepared.

On your next walk towards the tree-line, or jon-boat journey across the lake, always take the time to honor our King and repent. Because, again, fixing a non-redeemable world is not the issue at hand. The real issue is repairing the hearts of broken-men.
